Detection of areas of interest#

As we analyze the change in the Weighted Average Download Speed (WADS) there are some countries that call our attention. In order to understand these changes, the following plots show the contribution of each tile to increase the Weighted Average Download Speed. Instead of just showing the average speed at each tile, we are showing the average speed times the population from that tile and divide that by the population of the country.

PSE#

It is classified in the Mid level group. We observed a decline in the WADS during 2023-Q4 aligned with the start of the war and a recover in 2024-Q4. By plotting the spatial distribution of the data, we observe that there is no data for Gaza in 2025. Gaza has a good amout of data in the first 3 quarters of 2019. After that, most of its tiles do not have data. In 2025, there is data for one of the tiles in the south shown below.

LBN#

We obseve an uptake in Q4 2023 that grows till Q2 2024. In Q3 and Q4 2023 it decreases a gain and stays stable till Q2 2025. When observing the distribution of the share of WADS, we conclude that these changes are mostly due to changes that occured in Beirut.

Syr#

Syria has been growing since Q3 2023. Althought there was a decrease from Q1 to Q2 in 2025, more information is needed to confirm this trend
